A week after Kmart announced it would buy out its online retail partner, BlueLight.com, the e-tailer said Monday it would discontinue offering free Internet service to consumers. They are launching a 'new and improved' Bluelight.com Service for $8.95 a month, with the first three months offered at $6.95 if you act now. Part of the promised improvements are: no banner ads, bluelight.com store exclusives, and compatibility with most popular instant messaging programs. [Thanks to reader Carolyn Drapes for the tip off.]
