PhotoPoint snaps shut on users: "PhotoPoint's closing, forewarned only as "technical difficulties" in vague e-mails to users, caps a turbulent year that saw photo Web sites shut down, consolidate and retool their strategies. [...] PhotoPoint had attempted earlier to save its business by instituting $20 to $30 annual subscriptions and collecting from families, fan clubs and eBay sellers, among others, who wanted others to have easy access to their photos."
We announced PhotoPoint's switch to paying in April last year. Ed Bernstein, PhotoPoint's CEO, was quoted as saying: "The entire industry will have to move to a paid model or go away".
